Individual master's programme

At the University of Vienna, you can study Numismatics and Monetary History in the form of an individual master's programme. The only difference to a regular master's programme is in the admission procedure.

For admission to the individual master's programme in Numismatics and Monetary History, you require a completed degree (bachelor's or higher) in a related eligible discipline, such as historical and archaeological disciplines, but also history of art, European ethnology or social and cultural anthropology. If you completed another degree programme, please get in touch with us before applying for admission. Previous knowledge of numismatics is not a prerequisite, but it is certainly desirable. If you have previous knowledge, please let us know in your application for admission and provide appropriate evidence.

The website of Teaching Affairs and Student Services provides any information you might need about admission to an individual master's programme: https://studieren.univie.ac.at/en/admission/individual-studies/

For the individual master's programme in Numismatics and Monetary History, you do not have to organise your curriculum yourself. Rather, you simply have to point out that you would like to apply for admission to the individual master's programme in Numismatics and Monetary History. The curriculum we developed is available further below on this page. You can also download it in the form of a pdf file.

All courses at our Department are held in German only. Therefore, you have to provide evidence of German language proficiency corresponding to level C1 when applying for admission. Distance learning is not possible.

The individual master's programme in Numismatics and Monetary History takes (at least) four semesters (2 years) to complete. To successfully complete the programme, students have to write a master's thesis, comprising about 100 pages.

For graduation, you require a fully completed record of examinations, which Prof. Dr. Reinhard Wolters has to sign off before you can submit it.

To facilitate this procedure, you can download and use our template form.

If you have any questions about this degree programme, admission, the course of studies, etc., please contact Prof. Dr. Reinhard Wolters.
